When your foster is getting ready for adoption:

As a foster, we rely on you to help prepare your foster dog for their future home. This includes providing daily care, socialization, and training to ensure they are well-adjusted and ready for adoption. We expect fosters to observe and learn about their dog’s personality, behaviors, and preferences, which helps us match them with the right family. Regular updates, clear communication, and sharing quality photos and bios are essential to increase their adoption chances!

Please inform us if you are considering adopting your foster dog before we post them for adoption. Once we post them, we will start processing applications. While fosters will have the first choice to adopt, we need to be aware of your intentions beforehand!

Below I have created a template of what we need to know, adopters FAQ, things to help us suite with perfect home etc

Adoption Process

  1.  Application Processing: We review the application, conduct a house check (can be photos/videos), vet check, and reference check. We only process one app at once per dog.

  2. Foster Feedback: We value the foster’s opinion on the applicant. If everything checks out, the application is sent to the foster. Foster usually knows the dog best! So we like to know what you think about applicants too.

  3. Now we can set up a meet. The meeting place is totally up to you. Whether its at their house, your house, or a neutral ground.  If you are not comfortable doing a meet, that is totally ok! I can do it! :)

  4. Contract & Adoption: If the meet goes well, adoption happens once contract is signed & payment confirmed with Alexis. They cannot leave with dog without signing or paying fee.

    • Holding Period: If you’re unsure about the adopter, enforce a 24-hour waiting period, and Alexis will handle next steps.

  5. Spay/Neuter Agreement: If not already done (applies mainly to puppies).

Adoption Fees

Our adoption fees vary based on the age, size, and stay of the dog to reflect the different care needs and resources required. Just ask Alexis.

  1. Dogs over 6 months: $450

  2. Small Breed Adults: $550

  3. Puppies (Under 6 months): $550

  4. Special Cases/fosters/etc: Fees may be reduced for long stay residents/temperament/health needs. I reduce fees for fosters.

Includes: Spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchip, deworming, flea/tick & heartworm prevention, leash, collar, and starter food.

Why Fees? Adoption fees support medical care, training, and rescue operations, ensuring the best care for every dog.

Fosters: Returning Supplies after Adoption

  • Returning Supplies: Please send dog with leash, collar, food. Contact Alexis if you don't have that for the adopter. Please return the crate if you are not using it again.

  • Adopting Your Foster: The same rule applies for returning supplies if you adopt your foster. Adopters or foster to adopters can purchase the crate for $50 (large crate) or $35 (small) from Waggy Butts if they wish so that we can buy another one.

  • Continuing to Foster: If you are going to foster another dog with Waggy Butts & Happy Mutts after your current foster is adopted, you can use the supplies for the next fosters!
